Windy City Fencers compete extensively at tournaments in Chicago

as well as regional and national tournaments.

In 2006, 48 participated in at least one tournament and

17 qualified for the USFA Summer Nationals tournament.

 

Recent Results:

5/5/2007 At the 2007, Midwest Sectionals, seven Windy City fencers qualified for the 2007 USFA Summer Nationals: In Division 1A Mens Epee, Henry Reed and Coach Tsanko Hantov; in Div. 1A Womens Epee, Lydia Kopecky, Shannon Kimball, and Jackie Swietochowski; in U19ME Henry Reed and Albert Starshak; in U19WE, Lydia Kopecky and Jackie Swietochowski.  Windy City will also have teams in Senior and Junior Epee, for both men and women.  For the men: Henry Reed, Albert Starshak, Michael Zook, and Nabil Salem.  For the women:  Shannon Kimball, Lydia Kopecky, Jackie Swietochowski, and Ani Zotti.
4/29/2007 At the Dominick Epee Challenge, Henry Reed took first in the Mixed Open, Albert Starshak took 9th, Nabil Salem (11th), Michael Zook (14th), Kevin Shapiro (22d), and Jackie Swietochowski took 26th in a very strong field. Jackie Swietochowski won the Women's Open.  The Flying Walri (Henry Reed, Albert Starshak, and Michael Zook) won the team event.  Windy City fencers constituted almost the entire Y12 and Y14 Mixed Epee fields, including Dante LaVia (1st Y14, 2d Y12), Nicholas Levy (1st Y12), Mason Speta (2d Y14, 3d Y12), Tom Hersbach (3d Y14, 3d Y12), Thomas Donnell (3d Y14), Samantha Perry, Nathaniel Green, Charlotte Green, Allison Shapiro, and Lane Lubell.
4/20-23/2007 At the USFA North American Cup (NAC F) tournament in Tuscon, Arizona, Lydia Kopecky was 20th out of a field on 94, earning her senior nationals points and making her the first Windy City Fencer to qualify to a Division I event at the USFA Summer Nationals!  Three Windy City fencers earned medals:  Harrison MacRae was 2d and Lane Lubell was 6th in Y10ME; Samantha Perry was 3d in Y10WE!  Also competing on the mens' side was Dante LaVia (Y14 & Y12), Thomas Donnell, Lee Kopecky, and Lane Lubell.  On the womens' side, Mason Speta competed in Y14 and Y12WE, and was 9th in Y12.  Samatha Perry also competed in Y12WE.
4/14-15/2007 At the Illinois Divisionals, six Windy City fencers qualified for the 2007 USFA Summer Nationals:  in Div. 2 (and/or) Div. 3 Mens Epee:  Nabil Salem, Kevin Shapiro, and Michael Zook; in U16ME, Nabil Salem; in U16WE, Ani Zotti; in Y14WE, Mason Speta and Allison Shapiro.

Mason Speta competed in the Prise de Fer Super Youth Circuit tournament, taking 3d in Y12 Women's Epee and 10th in Y14 Women's Epee.

3/24/2007 40 Windy City fencers competed in the Windy City Spring Youth and Open Epee tournament.  Notable Results:  Henry Reed won the Open (an A2 tournament) and received his A; Mike Zook, Jackie Swietochowski, and Albert Starshak were also in the top 16 in the Open.  Samantha Perry (1), Harrison MacRae, August Maleug (3), and Lane Lubell (3) were the top of the Y10 division.  Mason Speta was 2d in Y12.
3/17/2007 Kevin Shapiro competed in the Illinois Open, taking 15th.
3/17/2007 Lydia Kopecky competed in the Minnesota Open, taking 3d in Women's Epee and 15th in the Mixed.
3/16-18/2007

8 Windy City fencers competed in the Houston Super Youth Circuit Tournament, and had 5 top-10 finishes (and 3 fencers on the medal stand):  Thomas Donnell, Keara Duffy, Lee Kopecky, Dante LaVia, Harrison MacRae, Allison Shapiro, Mason Speta, Shelby Stone.

3/9-12/2007 5 Windy City fencers competed in the USFA North American Cup (E) tournament in Atlanta Georgia, in Division II and III:  Nabil Salem (27th in Div. II); Jackie Swietochowski (26th in Div. II); Kevin Shapiro (48th in Div. II); Mike Zook (19th in Div. II); Ani Zotti (55th in Div. III).
3/3-4/2007

10 Windy City fencers competed in the Arnold Fencing Classic, with 5 medal wins:  Thomas Donnell; Keara Duffy; Lee Kopecky; Dante LaVia; Nicholas Levy; Lane Lubell (1st-Y10ME); Samantha Perry (1st-Y10WE; 3d-Y12WE); Allison Shapiro; Kevin Shapiro; Mason Speta (1st-Y12WE; 3d-Y14WE);  

2/16-19/2007 4 Windy City fencers competed in the Junior Olympics in Denver (having previously qualified through an Illinois qualifying tournament):  Lydia Kopecky, Nabil Salem, Albert Starshak, and Michael Zook.
2/10/2007 Henry Reed competed in CAAFC Open #5, taking 2d.
2/11/2007 10 Windy City fencers competed in the CAAFC Junior/Cadet/Y14/Y12 tournament, with 5 top finishes: Thomas Donnell; Charlotte Green; Nathaniel Green; Tom Hersbach (2d-Y12); Dante LaVia (3d-Y12); Max Lehman (3d Y-12); Nicholas Levy (1st-Y12); Lane Lubell; Samantha Perry; Harrison Rogers; Kevin Shapiro (2d Cadet).
1/27/2007 Michael Zook competed at the Indiana University Spring Open, taking 5th.
1/21/2007 5 Windy City fencers competed in epee at the CAAFC Open #4:  Shannon Kimball; Henry Reed (2d); Nabil Salem; Albert Starshak; Michael Zook (3d).
