2007-2008: A Great Year!
Growth: Windy City Fencing continued as the largest youth fencing program in Chicago, with over 60 students aged 8-18 taking classes. We also began a successful adult beginners program.
Competitive Success: At all levels, 2007-2008 was a very successful year for our competitive fencers. (Check out the results page.)
- Four medals at the USFA Summer Nationals. Mason Speta (top left with Coach Hantov) repeated as Gold Medalist in Y12 Womens Epee. Mason also won 6th place in the Y14 Womens Epee. Lydia Kopecky (top right) was 8th in Juniors (under 20) Womens Epee. And Harrison MacRae was 7th in Y12 Mens Epee. A total of 18 Windy City fencers competed at the USFA Nationals. Congratulations to all!
- Eight fencers (Thomas Donnell, Lydia Kopecky, Dante LaVia, Donna LaVia, Harrison MacRae, August Malueg, Samantha Perry, and Mason Speta) nationally ranked at the end of the year.
- Seven medals at USFA North American Cup tournaments throughout the year.
- Fifteen medals at Super Youth Circuit tournaments.
- More than 30 fencers who competed in USFA regional youth and local tournaments.
