Head Coach and Owner — Tsanko Hantov

Tsanko Hantov competed in the 2000 Olympic Games and won a Bronze Medal at the 2001 World Championships in the Modern Pentathalon. Tsanko was National Senior Champion in 1998 and National Junior Champion in 1995 and 1996 in Mens Epee in Bulgaria. Tsanko has coached fencing for more than 7 years, and has extensive experience training fencers at all levels. Tsanko has been the head coach at Windy City since 2005.  He is a graduate of the National Sports Academy, Sofia, Bulgaria.

Tsanko Hantov is now the owner of Windy City Fencing -Chicago, Inc.

Josh Holmstrom

Josh Holmstrom was one of the original founders of Windy City Fencing, together with Barry Matchett and Jeff Ulmer.  Josh was a long-time U.S. Modern Pentathlete and fencer, making it to the finals of the U.S. Olympic Trials in Modern Pentathlon in both 1992 and 1996.

Josh, Barry, and Jeff built Windy City Fencing until it could hire a full-time coach in Tsanko, and have turned the club over to him.  But Josh still coaches out of his love of fencing, and of the kids.

Barry Matchett

Barry Matchett, one of the original founders of Windy City Fencing, also competed at U.S. Modern Pentathlon, making it to the finals of the U.S. Olympic Trials in 1996.  Barry still fences and competes.

Barry too still volunteers to coach fencing classes, helping Windy City continue to grow, out of love of fencing and the kids (and in preparation for the fencing careers of his kids).
